The boy who can learn anything will learn fear

With the Hundred-Year Hunt reinstated, the Nightlings are on the run from bands of hunters armed with cruel new traps designed by one of their own as they search for other creatures of the Old World hiding in the far corners of the realm. When Dark is captured and delivered into the hands of a most vile human interested in his fae blood, she will teach him the true meaning of fear.

In his escape, Dark saves the last vildravn, but this unusual ancient being seems all too eager to get the boy with fae blood to the abandoned city of Troha where a crown awaits the first to set foot on its fabled streets of gold.

He is the Sender of the Crows, and he has dark secrets of his own. Black wings fill the sky, and an ancient power is awoken.

Immerse yourself in the adventure like never before

In the story, characters refer to an illustrated encyclopedia of monsters – the Bestiarum Noctis.

And now you can get your own copy, so when the Girl with the Knives is using it to hunt down the creatures of the night, you can flick through the exact same pages as she does.

About the world

Much of the literature that falls into the classic fantasy genre like Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones could be considered roughly equivalent to our real world's Middle Ages (c.500 to 1500AD) filled with armoured knights, swords, castles, and a rich folklore of magic and monsters. But the Middle Ages also saw scientific innovations like astrolabes (5th century), gunpowder (9th century), spectacles (c.1260AD), moveable type (c1440AD), and much more.

So in building the fantasy world of this book series, M.A.Batten introduces emerging medieval innovations for a richer, exciting, and more dangerous fantasy adventure.
